Hike: Quercus Lookout, Squamish

Murrin Provincial Park is one of those places I’d driven past countless times, always thinking about how much I’d like to stop. We finally did, earlier this year, and were treated to one of the most rewarding short hikes I’ve yet discovered around Vancouver: the hike to Quercus Lookout.

A short hike near Vancouver

The park itself is just off the Sea-to-Sky Highway near Squamish, and the trailhead is reached by walking halfway around a tiny, glistening, perfect lake. Once on the trail you gain a lot of elevation in a short time, passing by a number of natural rock faces outfitted for climbing before taking a path that emerges onto the lookout point—a big, mostly flat, mostly bare rock outcropping that offers insane views of Howe Sound. I only wish we’d packed a picnic.
